During the past thirty years, infrared thermography has been categorized under a broad range of terms.  Some of the most popular include:   Predictive Maintenance, Preventive Maintenance, Condition-Based Monitoring, and Forensics.   In addition to the foregoing, infrared thermography may also play a key role in another discipline known as Reliability Centered Maintenance.   

Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) is not one particular action, but rather a structured approach for maintenance of a process, piece of equipment, or an entire group of assets.  RCM utilizes elements of Predicitive Maintenance and Condition-Based Monitoring.  RCM seeks to maximize equipment effectiveness and availability while reducing maintenance costs.

This presentation describes the application and limitation of infrared thermography and how it fits into an RCM program.

This course covers the use of thermal imaging for several applications and how thermography fits into a Reliability-Centered Maintenance program.
